	The One Who Restores Souls


	I am the resurrection and the life. Whoever believes in me, though he die, yet shall he live. - Jesus

Normally we are unconscious of much of our lives. In addition to the everydayness that marks many mindless moments, our soul (neshamah or nefesh) is tended to by God while we sleep. Awakening is an analog of the resurrection from the dead: Just as God revives us from the depths of our sleep and enables our eyes to once again receive light, so will He ultimately revive the dead from their state and bring them into the glorious presence of His Light.

Jesus is the one who can awaken us and give us spiritual eyes to receive His light. When He said that He was the "resurrection and the life," He followed up with a telling question: "Do you believe this?" (John 11:25-26). The revelation of life from the dead comes from a personal encounter with the one who overcame the power of death itself. May you experience it today!

The Hamachazir blessing is sometimes recited as part of the Jewish morning liturgy (shacharit) as a supplement to the personal use of the Modeh Ani blessing. However, in a deeper sense it expresses trust that God will one day revive the dead by means of His resurrection power through the Mashiach Yeshua:

Blessed are You, Adonai, the One who restores souls into the corpses of the dead.
