{"id":4203,"date":"2021-05-21T09:21:24","date_gmt":"2021-05-21T14:21:24","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/hebrew4christians.com\/training\/?p=4203"},"modified":"2021-05-23T12:14:35","modified_gmt":"2021-05-23T17:14:35","slug":"what-are-you-seeking-2","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/hebrew4christians.com\/training\/what-are-you-seeking-2\/","title":{"rendered":"What are you seeking?"},"content":{"rendered":"<div style=\"text-align: left;\">\n<p><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-1121 alignleft\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/hebrew4christians.com\/training\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/09\/chag-david-window.jpg?resize=125%2C125&#038;ssl=1\" alt=\"\" width=\"125\" height=\"125\" \/>King David says in Psalm 27:4, \u201cOne thing have I asked of the LORD, that will I seek\u201d (\u05d0\u05b7\u05d7\u05b7\u05ea \u05e9\u05c1\u05b8\u05d0\u05b7\u05dc\u05b0\u05ea\u05bc\u05b4\u05d9 \u05de\u05b5\u05d0\u05b5\u05ea\u05be\u05d9\u05b0\u05d4\u05d5\u05b8\u05d4 \u05d0\u05d5\u05b9\u05ea\u05b8\u05d4\u05bc \u05d0\u05b2\u05d1\u05b7\u05e7\u05bc\u05b5\u05e9\u05c1).\u00a0 Notice that David asked for just one thing \u2013 not many things.\u00a0 He did not come with a litany of requests.\u00a0 He was not \u201cdouble minded.\u201d\u00a0 David realized that what is most important is to have a seeking a heart, or rather, a heart that seeks that which is most important, and therefore he asked for the gift of focus and the pursuit of truth.\u00a0 He desired the \u201cpearl of great price.\u201d\u00a0 Note further that the verb translated \u201cI will seek\u201d (avakesh) comes from the root word bakash (\u05d1\u05bc\u05b8\u05e7\u05b7\u05e9\u05c1) meaning \u201cto wish\u201d or \u201cto desire.\u201d\u00a0 The verse could therefore be read as, \u201cThe one thing I ask from the Lord is for godly desire \u2013 for the will to \u201cbehold the sweetness of the Lord, and to inquire in His Presence.\u201d\u00a0 This is a prayer for the highest we may attain.\u00a0 The \u201cone thing\u201d David asked for was a heart made alive to perceive the wonder of God.<\/p>\n<p>So what do you value and love the most?\u00a0 What determines the direction of your heart?\u00a0 Augustine of Hippo said \u201cmy love is my gravity,\u201d by which he meant that his desire draws him forth and reveals who is really is.\u00a0 What you love &#8212; your desire, your heart\u2019s longing, your treasure, is your ultimate concern and what you secretly worship.\u00a0 \u201cAll who ask receive; all who seek find\u201d (Matt. 7:7).\u00a0 Since not all matters of love are equally able to satisfy the true needs of the heart, however, we must be careful about what we desire and what we are seeking, for what you seek, you will find.<\/p>\n<p>What we desire \u201cbekhol levavkha\u201d changes us; it affects us deeply; it takes us on a journey and ultimately manifests who we are.\u00a0 The more we love God, the more godly we will become, though the more we love pleasures and worldly matters, the more vain and empty we will become&#8230;\u00a0 The question is constantly being asked of our hearts &#8211;
