The Hebrew phrase <em>kol ha\u2019mitzvah<\/em> (\u05db\u05dc\u05be\u05d4\u05de\u05e6\u05d5\u05d4), here translated as \u201cthe whole commandment,\u201d refers to the heart attitude, or the inner passion of the soul. Some have linked the word \u201ccommandment\u201d (\u05de\u05e6\u05d5\u05d4) with the word \u201cconnection\u201d (\u05e6\u05d5\u05d5\u05ea\u05d0), suggesting that God&#8217;s commandments are the means by which we cleave to Him, as is written: \u201cthis is the love of God (\u05d0\u05d4\u05d1\u05ea \u05d0\u05dc\u05d4\u05d9\u05dd), that we hold fast to his commandments\u201d (1 John 5:3). As it is written, tamim yiyeh im Adonai Elohekha: \u201cYou shall be wholehearted with the LORD your God &#8211; \u05ea\u05de\u05d9\u05dd \u05ea\u05d4\u05d9\u05d4 \u05e2\u05dd \u05d9\u05d4\u05d5\u05d4 \u05d0\u05dc\u05d4\u05d9\u05da\u201d (Deut. 18:13), and &#8220;Fear God and keep his commandments &#8211; \u05db\u05d9\u05be\u05d6\u05d4 \u05db\u05dc\u05be\u05d4\u05d0\u05d3\u05dd &#8211; for this is the whole man&#8221; (Eccl. 12:13).<\/p>\n<p>The Kotzker once said, &#8220;The prohibition against making idols includes the prohibition against making idols out of the commandments. We should never imagine that the whole purpose of the Torah is its outer form, but rather the inward meaning.&#8221; Indeed, sacrificial blood was placed over the tablets of the law (i.e., the blood sprinkled on the kapporet, or the \u201ccrown\u201d of the Ark) that represented God\u2019s forgiveness and atonement for sin. The life is \u201cin the blood,\u201d which represents God\u2019s passion, the deepest truth of Torah. And this is the message of the gospel itself, of course, since the blood of Yeshua passionately shed for our sake has opened up a new and everlasting way for us to be rightly related to God (Heb. 9:12).<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #ffffff;\">&#8230;<\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>\u201cThe whole commandment that I am commanding you this day you shall observe and do, so that you may live&#8230;\u201d (Deut. 8:1).
