{"id":321,"date":"2020-08-03T13:09:19","date_gmt":"2020-08-03T13:09:19","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/hebrew4christians.com\/training\/?p=321"},"modified":"2020-08-15T08:48:19","modified_gmt":"2020-08-15T08:48:19","slug":"grappling-with-faith","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/hebrew4christians.com\/training\/grappling-with-faith\/","title":{"rendered":"Grappling with Faith"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-317 alignleft\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/hebrew4christians.com\/training\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/08\/eikev02.jpg?resize=175%2C127&#038;ssl=1\" alt=\"\" width=\"175\" height=\"127\" \/>Our Torah reading for this week is called \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/hebrew4christians.com\/Scripture\/Parashah\/Summaries\/Eikev\/eikev.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Eikev<\/a>\u201d (\u05e2\u05b5\u05e7\u05b6\u05d1), a word often translated \u201cbecause,\u201d though it literally means \u201cheel,\u201d and therefore recalls Jacob (\u05d9\u05e2\u05e7\u05d1) the \u201cheel-holder\u201d who wrestled with the pain of his past to learn to bear the name Israel (\u05d9\u05b4\u05e9\u05c2\u05b0\u05e8\u05b8\u05d0\u05b5\u05dc), the \u201cprince of God\u201d (Gen. 32:28)&#8230; Like Jacob, we must grapple to believe that the covenant of God\u2019s love and acceptance is meant for us, too&#8230; <!--more-->The Sassover rebbe reads the opening verse of our Torah portion, \u201cAnd it shall be because you listen&#8230;\u201d (\u05d5\u05b0\u05d4\u05b8\u05d9\u05b8\u05d4 \u05e2\u05b5\u05e7\u05b6\u05d1 \u05ea\u05bc\u05b4\u05e9\u05c1\u05b0\u05de\u05b0\u05e2\u05d5\u05bc\u05df) as, \u201cand it shall be when your heel is ready to take a step, you will listen to your heart.\u201d This is the step of faith. As you walk with God, you will come to know yourself as a child of the great King.
