The Hebrew word <em>devakut<\/em> (\u05d3\u05b0\u05bc\u05d1\u05b8\u05e7\u05d5\u05bc\u05ea) means &#8220;cleaving&#8221; and refers to communion with God. This word comes from the root word <em>davak<\/em> (\u05d3\u05bc\u05b8\u05d1\u05b7\u05e7), meaning to &#8220;cling&#8221; or &#8220;stick&#8221; (the Modern Hebrew word for \u201cglue\u201d is devek (\u05d3\u05b6\u05d1\u05b6\u05e7) which also comes from the same root).<\/p>\n<p>The sages comment that we can cleave to God only one day at a time. As Yeshua said: \u201cTake therefore no thought for tomorrow: for tomorrow shall take thought for the things of itself. Sufficient for the day its own trouble\u201d (Matt. 6:34). <em>One day at a time.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>The LORD gives us <em>daily bread<\/em> (\u05dc\u05b6\u05d7\u05b6\u05dd \u05d7\u05bb\u05e7\u05bc\u05b5\u05e0\u05d5\u05bc) so that we may persevere for this day. \u201cFor he is our God, and we are the people of his pasture and the sheep of his hand today &#8212; if you hear his voice\u201d (Psalm 95:7).
