{"id":1798,"date":"2003-10-31T04:59:43","date_gmt":"2003-10-31T10:59:43","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/hebrew4christians.com\/training\/?p=1798"},"modified":"2023-10-31T08:27:40","modified_gmt":"2023-10-31T13:27:40","slug":"surrounding-presence","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/hebrew4christians.com\/training\/surrounding-presence\/","title":{"rendered":"Surrounding Presence&#8230;"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-1225 alignleft\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/hebrew4christians.com\/training\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/09\/chag-create2.jpg?resize=125%2C125&#038;ssl=1\" alt=\"\" width=\"125\" height=\"125\" \/>The Name of God, YHVH (\u05d9\u05d4\u05d5\u05d4), means &#8220;Presence&#8221; (Exod. 3:13-14), &#8220;Breath&#8221; (Gen. 2:7; Num. 16:22), &#8220;Life&#8221; (Deut. 30:20), and &#8220;Love&#8221; (Exod. 34:6-7), but it also means \u201cI-AM-WITH-YOU-ALWAYS\u201d (\u05d0\u05e0\u05d9 \u05ea\u05de\u05d9\u05d3 \u05d0\u05d9\u05ea\u05da), teaching us that God is an ever-present help for us (Psalm 46:1). The Name YHVH means that &#8220;God was (i.e., <em>hayah<\/em>: \u05d4\u05d9\u05d4), God is (i.e., <em>hoveh<\/em>: \u05d4\u05d5\u05b6\u05d4), and God always will be (i.e., <em>veyihyeh<\/em>: \u05d5\u05b0\u05d9\u05b4\u05d4\u05b0\u05d9\u05b6\u05d4),&#8221; which implies that He is ever present and not restricted by time or space. Moreover, God is called <em>havayah<\/em> (\u05d4\u05b2\u05d5\u05b8\u05d9\u05b8\u05d4), which means He is continually sustaining creation by the Word of His power: \u201cIn Him we live, move, and have our being\u201d (Acts 17:28; Heb. 1:3). As it is poetically expressed in the Psalms, &#8220;Behind and before you cover me; You lay your hand upon me&#8221; (Psalm 139:5).<\/p>\n<p><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-6435\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/hebrew4christians.com\/training\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/10\/psalm139-5-analysis-1.gif?resize=537%2C545&#038;ssl=1\" alt=\"\" width=\"537\" height=\"545\" \/><span style=\"color: #ffffff;\">..<\/span><\/p>\n<audio class=\"wp-audio-shortcode\" id=\"audio-1798-1\" preload=\"none\" style=\"width: 100%;\" controls=\"controls\"><source type=\"audio\/mpeg\" src=\"https:\/\/hebrew4christians.com\/training\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/10\/psalm139-5-jjp-1.mp3?_=1\" \/><a href=\"https:\/\/hebrew4christians.com\/training\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/10\/psalm139-5-jjp-1.mp3\">https:\/\/hebrew4christians.com\/training\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/10\/psalm139-5-jjp-1.mp3<\/a><\/audio>\n<p>\u00ad<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBehind and before you cover me.\u201d The word \u201cbehind\u201d translates the adjective <em>achor<\/em> (\u05d0\u05b8\u05d7\u05d5\u05b9\u05e8), a word related to the word <em>acharon<\/em> (\u05d0\u05b7\u05d7\u05b2\u05e8\u05d5\u05b9\u05df), \u201cwest,\u201d though it also refers to something later (\u05d0\u05b7\u05d7\u05b2\u05e8\u05b5\u05d9), such as a later place or time (\u05d0\u05b7\u05d7\u05b2\u05e8\u05b4\u05d9\u05ea). In Hebrew, the word generally means \u201cbackward\u201d (\u05dc\u05d0\u05d7\u05d5\u05e8) or \u201cbehind\u201d (\u05de\u05d0\u05d7\u05d5\u05e8). God\u2019s got your back, friend&#8230; Note further that the word translated \u201cbefore\u201d is <em>kedem<\/em> (\u05e7\u05b6\u05d3\u05b6\u05dd), a preposition that means \u201ceast\u201d but also refers to the primordial beginning, the dawn. The root verb <em>kadam<\/em> (\u05e7\u05b8\u05d3\u05b7\u05dd) means to \u201cmeet\u201d in initial contact. God is always present for you, friend, and that includes times and days that lie ahead, in the distant future&#8230; \u201cAs far as the east is from the west,\u201d so far does God\u2019s compassion and love cover you, surround you, and sustain you (Psalm 103:12).<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYou cover me.\u201d The verb <em>tzartani<\/em> (\u05e6\u05b7\u05e8\u05b0\u05ea\u05bc\u05b8\u05e0\u05b4\u05d9) comes from the root <em>tzur<\/em> (\u05e6\u05d5\u05e8) that means to encircle, to press upon, to \u201cpressurize,\u201d as by relentlessly attacking a stronghold. The image is that God \u201chems us in,\u201d that is, He surrounds us and shelters us with His Presence \u2013 so that we cannot escape: You are under God\u2019s supervision and protection, friend&#8230; And while the root <em>tzur<\/em> can imply <em>tzuris<\/em> (trouble, affliction), in this context it is used to picture the Lord securing our station, preserving, protecting, and defending our way. \u201cYou lay your hand upon me.\u201d God\u2019s personal and providential hand is at work in your life \u2013 He is <em>HaMashgiach hagadol<\/em> (\u05d4\u05b7\u05de\u05bc\u05b8\u05e9\u05c1\u05b0\u05d2\u05b4\u05d9\u05d7\u05b7 \u05d4\u05b7\u05d2\u05bc\u05b8\u05d3\u05d5\u05b9\u05dc) &#8211; the Great Overseer of the universe, and that means your way is as sure and secure as the very power that God\u2019s own will affords.
